Beautifully hand-painted in the Holy Land by Israeli Artist Sarit Romano this decorated Ram’s horn shofar features the Lion of Judah on a blue background.
Size: 16-18 inches / 40.5-45.5 cm around the edge of the shofar
As a symbol of blessing, majesty, and even divine protection, the lion came to symbolize the tribe of Judah. It is not surprising, then, that the lion symbol continued to be used even after the destruction of Jerusalem, the capital of Judah’s nation, in 586 BCE.
Christianity uses the Lion of Judah symbol to refer to Jesus Christ. The Lion of Judah is an ancient symbol that represents the Israelite tribe of Judah throughout the Old Testament of the Hebrew Bible. The symbol appears on the emblem of Jerusalem as well, recognizing the tribe and inmates of the Biblical Yehuda or Judah. Traditionally, the tribe is represented by a lion. The symbol dates back to Jacob, who referred to his son Judah as ‘Gur Aryeh’ or ‘the young lion’ (Genesis 49:9).
